Media Capture Guide

🧭 Why This Guide Exists

Stunning visuals help us attract the right kind of guests—nomads who build, create, and connect. Whether you’re snapping a sunset over your lot or catching a skoolie getting a roof raise, you’re telling the story of your property. And we want to help you tell it well.

Great photos and videos aren’t optional—they’re essential. Media is how potential guests get a feel for your space before they ever arrive. The more you capture, the more we can showcase your property, your tools, and the vibe that makes your location unique.

Show off your slice of nomadic heaven.

What to capture

Let’s cover what our audience wants to see:

The Property
  • Wide shots of the land layout.
  • Entrances, signage, driveways
  • Drone footage (optional, if available)
Amenities & Tools
  • Workshops, tools, benches, garages.
  • Action shots: guests using tools
  • Highlight clean, organized workspaces (even if they’re mid-project)
Community in Action
  • Guests working on their rigs

  • Group meals, casual hangouts, pets lounging

  • Moments that feel real, not staged

Best Times to Capture Photos

Lighting can make or break a photo. Here’s when to aim for:

  • Golden Hour: 1 hour after sunrise / 1 hour before sunset
Soft, warm light. Everything looks like a movie set.
  • Blue Hour: 20 minutes before sunrise / 20 minutes after sunset
Cool, moody tones. Great for capturing silhouettes, glowing windows, and that “camping-under-the-stars” magic.
  • Overcast Days:
Great for even lighting, zero harsh shadows.
  • Nighttime Magic (optional):
String lights, fire pits, porch glows—show off the cozy.

How to Frame the Perfect Shot

For Rigs & Builds
  • Step back far enough to capture the whole rig
  • Shoot diagonally from the front corner to give depth
  • Include the surroundings (trees, sheds, mountains) to place it in context
  • If possible, capture movement—a person tightening a bolt or painting a panel

📍 Pro tip: Use the Rule of Thirds—place the rig slightly off-center to make it feel more dynamic.

For Action & Tool Shots
  • Focus on hands using the tool
  • Slight angle from behind the person’s shoulder = immersive
  • Candid is better than posed—let the moment happen naturally
For Property & Amenity Shots
  • Take one wide “establishing” shot of the full area
  • Then get detail shots (e.g., a shiny wrench wall, garden path, cozy bench)
  • Try framing with natural elements: branches, doorways, or fences

Phone Camera Settings for Best Quality

No need for fancy equipment—just set your phone up right:

  • Open Camera → ⚙️ Settings
  • Set resolution to Max/High
  • Enable HDR mode
  • Use 4K @ 30fps for video
  • Settings > Camera > Formats → High Efficiency
  • Settings > Record Video → 4K at 30 fps
  • Preserve Settings → ON for Camera Mode & Live Photo

We love quick clips (10–30 seconds) of:

  • Guests working on builds
  • Property walkthroughs
  • Community moments

Uploading Your Media

You’ll receive a custom Google Drive link for your location in your “Property Partner Welcome” email.

Once you’ve taken your shots:

  1. Open the link
  2. Upload files
  3. Organize using folders like this (optional but helpful):
    • /Property
    • /Tools & Amenities
    • /Guests & Community
    • /Events
    • /Seasonal Shots

🧠 Bonus Tips

  • Add captions when you upload: “Greg welding the water tank,” etc.

  • Seasonal photos are marketing gold—fall leaves, snow, summer green-ups

  • Don’t delete too soon—what looks boring to you might be exactly what we need

  • Capture in both landscape (wide) and portrait (tall)

  • The more images you send, the more I can use. We can do A LOT with a well taken wide shot… 😉
